About

Kate Bayliss

Dr Kate Bayliss is a British political economist, researcher and writer. Her work examines the ways that societies organise in order to meet our basic human needs, such as for water, warmth, shelter, and care. She has worked extensively in the UK and the global South. Her research focuses on the roles of different actors, often addressing the impacts of privatisation and private finance, tracing how global capital flows can shape access to services. Across her work, she explores themes of social justice and inequality. She is interested in the thorny complexities of the power relations and narratives by which systems are generated and sustained, and how we can move to a more equitable and sustainable society.

She is affiliated with SOAS, University of London, and her research has been featured by the BBC, the Financial Times, the Guardian and Bloomberg among others.
